DIY Faux Vintage Olive Bucket Christmas Tree Holder
I've always loved The Ponds Farmhouse's Christmas tree holder. It's a banded vintage metal barrel.
The website says its an original large vintage European olive barrel and I swoon every time I see it on Pinterest. 😍
The patina is amazing!
I've been on the lookout for years for something similar with no luck.
So this year I decided to try and replicate my own.
The shape of the barrel is quite unique. The only similar item I could find was a galvanized metal garbage bin at Bunnings.
To create the patina I started with a base coat of Dulux Metalshield Hammered Finish spray paint in Charcoal.
I taped off my bin to create the faux bands. I mixed up a rust coloured paint and added cinnamon to replicate a rusty texture.
To the rest of the bin I added a few light coats of white paint to allow some of the metal to come through.
I had to do a few coats of each section, lightening and darkening areas till I was happy with the result.
And this was the finished result!
I also have a Christmas tree very similar to The Ponds Farmhouse. It's sparse and narrow and I can't wait to set it up in my new rusty banded metal barrel.
In fact ...
Here it is all set up!
Ultimately, I didn't use this DIY was my tree holder this year, having found an original vintage wine press barrel afterwards.
However, I am happy with the result and if I had done more than one tree this year, I would have definitely used it.
