DIY Olive Tree Topiaries with Spanish Moss

Happy Weekend Friends!

I hope you all had a great week. I've been taking it easy after my knee operation, while trying to catch up on a few blog posts. Speaking of which, today I'm sharing my new Olive Tree Topiaries.

Olive tree topiaries or even faux olive trees can be quite expensive for good quality ones. For a 65cm one you could be paying anything up from $60-$80 each! So of course, I decided to try to make my own.

And I'm so glad I did. They turned out so well. And for a lot less.

I started by looking for the individual branches. Curtain Wonderland had a sale and I was able to pick up 49cm ones for $6.60 each. I purchased 6 branches (3 for each topiary) totalling $39.90.

I reused the old pots from my topiary that were already in the entryway.

These pots already had faux grass mat inserts.

But I really wanted to use something more fancy. Again, any type of faux moss was pretty pricey. I did like the look of faux Spanish Moss (aka Old Man's Beard). And I even considered buying some real moss which was by far cheaper, until I was out in the garden and low and behold, growing in one of our bushes was a bunch of Spanish Moss! I did some research and it appears it should be okay to grow inside, after all, it is an air plant. So I plucked some and popped it in the top of each pot. I give it an occasional misting of water and it gets indirect morning sun so I'm hoping it keeps okay.
