Cute Vintage Cutlery & Doilies
Hi friends and happy Tuesday!
It's
been a week since my knee surgery and today is the first day I am
feeling a lot better. So much so that I managed to get a few photos done
for today's post. 😊
And
I'm very excited to be sharing some cute vintage cutlery I ordered on
Ebay and some old doilies that I think my parents gave me a very long
time ago and they have sat in the cupboard for years.
I
mentioned a few posts ago that I had been doing some washing. Well,
what I had actually been washing were these vintage doilies. I acquired
them years ago and they were in pretty bad shape. They were all stained
and nasty and I just wasn't up to the task of trying to restore them.
Until
I did a bit of research and there were a few ways to clean vintage
doilies. In the end, I just threw all the ideas together.
I
grabbed a large plastic bucket and filled it with hot water. Then I
added some salt, baking soda, vinegar and washing detergent. I mixed it
all up and threw in all the doilies.
I'll
admit I did forget about them for like a week or so. Whoops. After
which time I emptied out all the water and then rinsed them all in cool
water before laying them all out flat on a towel in the sun to dry.
They
actually came up pretty well. There are a few minor stains that haven't
budged and I could probably try soaking them again, but given they
aren't that noticeable, I'm not fussed going there again.
I'm sure they will look lovely in a stack or for table scapes, etc. So much better than sitting in a bag in a cupboard!
A
few weeks ago I also was thrifting on Ebay, cause that is all a girl
can do when you are in lock down! 😞 And I came across a few listing for
mixed lots of vintage cutlery. I only wanted them for display so a
mixed batch was perfect. And I wasn't disappointed.
Here's a few of the spoons.
I love the details in the handles and the ageing.
And some other ones in cute shapes and designs.
I
also got this tea strainer and mini spatula (?). I think that is what
it is anyway. 😆 If it goes by another name and if you know what it
is/was used for, please let me know. Either way, it is so stinking
cute!
Update: It's a beetroot server! Never would have guessed that. But it sounds very faaanncy. 😂
What's not to love about an old tarnished tong style tea strainer.
Now this spoon had me intrigued. I managed to do a Google image search
based on my picture. I came across some similar listings and
apparently it is an antique dutch silver windmill shovel caddy spoon.
How cute are all the details engraved into the scoop!
And
the tiny little windmill on the top of the handle actually spins!! I
kid you not! Anyway, I thought it was very unique and I'm not sure if it
has any value, but for me it's a keeper. 😊
Another cute spoon. Don't you just love all the details. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
And some cute forks and a knife and spoon. I think they are all cake/dessert ones.
And another unique little spoon.
How
cute is this old lady and her dog! I believe it is an Old Mother
Hubbard and her dog nursery rhyme spoon. If you know anything, please
do drop me a message!
And
last but not least this set of 4 vintage buffet forks. Also known as
sporks, they are a cross between a spoon, a knife, and a fork. Yes, I
Googled that. 😂
And
that is my current vintage cutlery and doily collection. I'll be
keeping an eye out for some cute vintage glass jars to store the cutlery
in. 😊
Hope
you are all well and enjoying the warmer weather here in Sydney. And
for all my US friends, I'm enjoying seeing all your fall decor!
Take care and stay safe!
