HOW TO RESTUFF IKEA EKTROP SOFA "BACK CUSHIONS" - AND AN UPDATE ON MY SEAT CUSHIONS

Today I'm sharing how I restuffed and repuffed up the back cushions on my Ikea Ektorp sofas to make them look good as new!
You may remember from my original post in January 2015 on How to Restuff Ikea Ektorp Sofa Cushions.
Unlike the seat cushions, my back cushions don't have a zipper opening to put any stuffing in.
And I found that taking the covers off for washing seemed to puff them back up again when I put the covers back on so it didn't really bother me that they sagged a bit. Until now.

Here is how they often look after a few weeks ... 😔

INSERT BRIGHT IDEA! 💡

What what if I used a separate insert that I could put in the tops (or bottoms) of my couch cushions that would be easy to pull out when I washed the covers.

Something like a ..... pillow!

So off to Target I went and purchased two of the flattest pillows I could find. These ones came in a pack of 2 for $6.

And here is how I restudied my back cushions.

Step 1. Pull out cushion insert.

Step 2. Fold new pillow in half and insert into bottom of cushion cover.

Step 3. Place original insert back in the cushion cover, on top of the folded pillow.

Step 4. Zip it up and put it back.

Step 5. Do the same with the back cushion on the opposite end.
(The middle one never seems to sag so I left it as is.)

Step 6. Step back and admire your new fluffy sofa cushions.

Step 7. Add your favourite farmhouse cushions.
Step back and admire. 😊

FURTHER UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2022
I now find placing the insert in last (at the base of the cushion) works better. But try both ways and see what works best for you. 😁

And now drum roll please!
So how are my stuffed "seat cushions" standing up after almost 2 and a half years?

PERFECTLY!
They are still soft and comfortable.
I haven't noticed any major deflation and as I've said before,
they do fluff up a bit again when you take the covers off for washing.

I am extremely happy with these quick, cheap and easy fixes for my couches.

Good luck if you try either of these methods. Definitely cheaper than buying new couches.

AND IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING...

I am in love with the Lofallet Beige colour covers I purchased 6 weeks ago. (Full post here.) They really do hide a lot of our pet hair (even though I vacuum regularly), and any grubby marks are far less noticeable.
